Worth Braving the Line At Lunchpad SF
By Charly Kayle, Informer Media Group
Calling all buttermilk fried chicken-on-a-soft-French-roll lovers (but only if it’s a Wednesday). Get over to the Lunchpad SF and get your chicken fix in, before it’s gone!
The Lunchpad SF cleverly shares space inside Noir Lounge in Hayes Valley to create a fresh and unique lunch menu, at a time when the cozy craft cocktail and wine bar/intimate nightclub would be sitting closed, dark and lonely. While it’s been called a pop-up, because people love trendy labels, it isn’t temporary, and it isn’t shutting down and opening up anywhere else.
The menu is comprised of soups, salads and sandwiches, but with delicious artisan flair. Out of some of the menu items I stuffed into my picky palate, the highlights include, but are definitely not limited to:
Tomato Bisque – thick and creamy with tomato richness, topped with Parmesan cheese, the crowning glory.
Berry Delicious Salad – fresh, bright-tasting mix of blueberries or blackberries, strawberries, candied cashews, shaved Parmesan, arugula and mustard balsalmic vinaigrette
Chicken Lil sandwich – roasted chicken salad with pesto, giardiniera, tomatoes, greens and garlic aioli. The chicken salad is made with onions or green peppers, hallelujah!
Huevos Rancheros – creamy, savory blend of sunny side up eggs on soft corn tortillas with pork chorizo, refried beans, pepperjack, corn salsa and sour cream. (Saturday/Sunday brunch only)
Chicken Run – the aforementioned Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich, with sweet and spicy slaw, Swiss cheese and garlic aioli. (Wednesday only)
Luckily, many of the menu items include the deliciously sweet and spicy. Habanero Candied Bacon (but not TOO spicy for us weenies), which can be added or ordered on the side. Try the refreshing thick cucumber slices of Grandpa’s Homemade Pickles.
For Saturday or Sunday brunch, drink a Brunchpad Bloody, which includes both the bacon and pickle, proudly sitting in houseblend spicy bloody Mary mix, vodka and a touch of pickle juice.
It’s worth standing in line for Lunchpad SF, or order ahead and make sure you get your seven buttermilk chicken sandwiches on Wednesday. One is more than enough, but you want to share, don’t you?…. or maybe set yourself up for the rest of the week.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The Lunchpad SF is located at 581 Hayes St, at Laguna Street, inside Noir Lounge. For more information, call (415) 522-6647 or visit thelunchpadsf.com.
